Bonin is a multimedia artist from Brazil, currently based in Rio de Janeiro. Dedicated to photography and film, she works with passion in comercial, fashion, editorial, as well as personal work. Obsessed with cinematic images, light and colour, she can work in multiple fields. Born in the mountains of Nova Friburgo in 1988, she moved to Rio de Janeiro at 18 to pursue her artistic ambitions.

She studied Cinematography at the International School of Cinema, and Photography at the School of Visual Arts (EAV Parque Lage).

 

In 2014, she moved to London where she resided for three years. She later returned to Rio de Janeiro and completed a Postgraduate degree in Photography and Image at IUPERJ. While primarily based in Rio, she frequently travels to London for work, family, and friends.

Her work explores the intersection of still photography, film, and personal experiences, trying to capture youth dreams and what it means to be alive, to believe in queer (r)existences, and freedom. 

 

Growing up, Bonin began photographing and documenting the youth and underground punk music scenes, influenced by her participation as a drummer in these communities. As a queer individual, her experience within these deviant cultures fueled her passion for capturing everyday life, leading her to develop a diverse artistic practice encompassing zines, videos, photobooks, and printed media. 

Her short VHS film and analogue photobook titled "DREAMS," work published by Rebel Mag, delves into nostalgia, queerness, and the pursuit of freedom. Furthermore, "The longest night of the year" is the first act of of an ongoing cinematic photo series investigating themes of isolation, belonging and fear.

Bonin's work is a testament to her commitment to authenticity. She is available for commissions in Brazil and worldwide.
